Daytona State rallies in final round to claim National Championship

COAL VALLEY, Ill. - Daytona State College erased a two-stroke deficit in the final round to surge past Odessa (Texas) College and claim the NJCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship.

The Falcons and Wranglers went back and forth throughout the four rounds. 

Odessa led by one stroke after the first round but shot +24 in round two, opening the door for Daytona State, who shot +21 to take a one-stroke lead at the halfway point. 

The Wranglers regained the third-round lead after shooting +11, four strokes better than the Falcons. 

Daytona State closed with a +13 while Odessa shot +16 over the final 18 holes, giving the Falcons a four-round score of +69, one stroke better than Odessa (+70). 

Seminole State shot a +20 on the final day, the Raiders' best round of the week and held off Weatherford (Texas) College to surge from fifth place entering the day to claim a third-place finish. 

Palm Beach State College finished eighth. 

Individually, Daytona State's Alana Kutt (+10) and Jamie Lowry (+12) finished second and third, respectively. Darcie West (+19) was Seminole State's top finisher in sixth and Jessica Danckwerth (+23) was Palm Beach State's top finisher in eighth. 

Daytona State's Laura Brown was named the Coach of the Tournament.
