NICEVILLE, Fla. - Gulf Coast State College rolled past Chipola College, 70-45, to win the FCSAA DI Women's Basketball Championship on Saturday afternoon at Raider Arena.

The victory marked the 14th FCSAA Championship in school history for the Commodores, the most of any FCSAA program, and sends Gulf Coast State to the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship in Lake Charles, La.

Chipola, meanwhile, will turn its eyes to the NJCAA Tournament Selection Show to see if it earns one of the eight available at-large bids to Lake Charles.

Saturday belonged to the Commodores, who led wire-to-wire, beginning with Anjela Minja's basket to open the scoring.

Gulf Coast State's first big run of the game came midway through the first quarter. Leading 8-4, a 10-3 run pushed the lead to double-digits for the first time.

After Serena Heeren's layup pulled Chipola back to within single digits at 18-10, Minja answered with a tip-in with 43 seconds left in the first and the Commodores maintained a double-digit lead the remainder of the game.

Gulf Coast State blew things wide open in the second, outscoring Chipola 21-5 to carry a 41-15 lead to the half.

The Indians won the third quarter, 17-14, then showed signs of life, scoring seven unanswered points in the first minute of the fourth. Tamiria Jones' bucket finished the run and brought the Indians within 16 (55-39). Chipola extended the run to 9-0 on a basket by Daniya McDonald with 7:25 remaining, but that's as close as the Indians got.

Gulf Coast State finally got on the board in the fourth thanks to Kayla Hopson's three-point play with 6:29 left, igniting a 13-2 run that sealed the game.

Hopson finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team alongside teammates Myla Benton, who was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, Arianny Francisco De Oliveira and Minja.

Benton scored a game-high 26 points, one night after totaling 38 in the Commodores' semifinal win over Eastern Florida State College.

McDonald (14 points), Heeren (11 points) and Jaida Redwine represented Chipola on the All-Tournament Team.

Other members of the All-Tournament Team included Daytona State College's Jaeden Williams, Tallahassee State College's Alahni Lovett and Kyana Poitier, and Eastern Florida State's Shadia Lara Santacruz and Angela Mirkovic.

Gulf Coast State's Rory Kuhn received the Roonie Scovel Award, which recognizes the FCSAA DI Women's Basketball Coach of the Year.
