FORT PIERCE, Fla. - Indian River State College continued its dominance of NJCAA Swimming & Diving by winning the Men's National Championship on Saturday.
The victory marked the 52nd straight championship for the Pioneers.
Indian River State tallied 1,255 points in team scoring, led by NJCAA Swimmer of the Year Marcus Johnson and NJCAA Diver of the Year Spencer Biggs.
Not to be outdone, Indian River State's women's team won its 44th straight championship, and 48th overall.
Combined, Indian River State teams won 46 of 50 events during the championship and The River men established the following NJCAA records over the four-day event:
- 50m Breaststroke: Marcus Johnson, 23.82
- 100m Breaststroke: Marcus Johnson, 51.72
- 400m Medley Relay: Noah Smith, Marcus Johnson, Zackary Gresham, Oliver Nell, 3:08.64
- 200m Medley Relay: Noah Smith, Marcus Johnson, Zackary Gresham, Oliver Nell, 1:25.75 (tied NJCAA record)
Fellow FCSAA member College of the Florida Keys was represented in the meet by Lucas Montiel De La Nuez.
Indian River State's Sion Brinn was named the NJCAA Men's Swimming Coach of the Year and David Suba was named NJCAA Diving Coach of the Year.
Indian River State College's Peyton Cosgrave was the recipient of the Dr. Jack Cistriano Service Award, presented annually to an individual who has provided outstanding service to the sport of swimming & diving. Cosgrave, who currently works as a clerk in the St. Lucie County Court System, has assisted the IRSC swimming & diving program on meet days, including the NJCAA Championships, for more than a decade.
