KANSAS CITY, Fla. - Eastern Florida State College golf coach Jamie Howell was honored as the 2026 Walter Hauck NJCAA Coaches Association President of the Year award last Wednesday.

Howell, who has been the head coach of the men's golf team for 23 seasons and the women's team for eight, is the president of NJCAA Men's Golf Coaches Association.

"Too easy to say it is an award to the president, there are so many people behind it." Howell said. "First of all. the college gives me the opportunity to be a part of the association, actually spent 12 years as an officer with the association and I have a wonderful vice president from the Des Moines area, Chris Sebock. My AD Jeff Carr not only gives me the opportunity to run the golf team but to take part in the governance so there is more than one person that went into this."

It is Howell's second stint as the president and has been a leader in reworking the constitution and unifying all of the NJCAA golf divisions.

"It continues to grow, the good news is golf looks healthy across the divisions and a lot of young people want to play golf from all over the world and they want to come to the states and compete at the collegiate level. That is a healthy environment and part of the task is to make sure that environment is healthy and one day when someone else takes over they can continue the traditions that golf is known for."

The award recognizes an NJCAA President for his/her many years of dedicated service, devotion, and commitment to the NJCAA organization.

"We are very proud of Coach Jamie Howell and this well-earned recognition," said College President Dr. Jim Richey. "Jamie's passion for the game, dedication to his student athletes, and unwavering standards of excellence have transformed our golf program into a source of pride for Eastern Florida State College. This honor underscores what we see every day — a coach who leads with purpose, integrity, and heart."

Howell was honored during the 2026 NJCAA Annual Convention in Kansas City, Missouri on Wednesday night.
