DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Katelyn Jewell's eight-yard touchdown pass to Layla West with 1:55 remaining broke a scoreless tie and gave Florida Gateway College a 7-0 victory over Daytona State College in the FCSAA Women's Flag Football Championship Game.
Florida Gateway (15-1) won a second straight FCSAA Championship, albeit in a much different manner than 2025's 37-0 shutout victory over the Falcons.
Friday's championship game marked the third meeting in 2026 between the two teams. Florida Gateway won the first two by scores of 51-7 and 25-7. The Timberwolves' defense maintained their stingy ways but the host Falcons were up to the task and matched Florida Gateway play for play.
As the defensive slugfest unfolded, overtime began looking like a real possibility until Florida Gateway marched down the field on its penultimate possession.
Facing a 3rd and goal from the Falcons' eight, Jewell connected with West on a corner route for the first points of the night. Nichelle Brown caught the extra point to give Florida Gateway a 7-0 lead.
On its ensuing possession, Daytona State turned the ball over on downs and the Timberwolves ran out the clock.
Jewell was named the Most Outstanding Player of the championship game.
