NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Pasco-Hernando State College beat Lake-Sumter State College, 2-0, to win the FCSAA Division II Baseball Championship.
With the win, the Bobcats will advance to the NJCAA DII South District Championship Series in Troy, Ala., May 9-11 against Wallace Community College-Dothan, the ACCC Champion.
Lake-Sumter State punched its ticket to the championship game with a 14-2 win over South Florida State College in Saturday's first game. The Lakehawks, however, were unable to sustain the offensive momentum, managing just two hits, both against starter and winning pitcher Gavin Zassenbreaker, who went 7.2 innings.
Jose Roig recorded the final four outs for his third save of the season.
Ethon Tesmer (5.0 IP, 3 H) and Corey Peters (3.0 IP, 2 H) were valliant in defeat for Lake-Sumter State.
Dariel Castillo's RBI-single in the third plated Anthony Cole to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. That proved to be all Zassenbreaker needed, though they did tack on an insurance run in the eighth when Fano Cruz doubled home Clay Thompson.
