Register, Venner, Suprius grab NJCAA POTW honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The NJCAA announced its latest Basketball Player of the Week awards on Wednesday and included three standouts from the FCSAA.

Eastern Florida State's Sean Register, Miami Dade's Meredith Venner and Palm Beach State's Janiah Suprius were recognized as Players of the Week in the sport of basketball for games covering the recently competed Winter Break. 


Register was named the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

A freshman forward from Cleveland, Ohio, he averaged 26.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 1.0 steal and 2.3 blocks in three games.

He shot 66.7 percent (30-of-45) from the field and 85.0 percent (17-of-20) from the line, helping the Titans to a 2-1 record against NJCAA competition. 

Register posted double-doubles vs. Gordon (27 points, 15 rebounds) and Daytona State (27 points, 12 rebounds).


Venner was named the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

A freshman center from San Andres, Colombia, she averaged 21.3 points, 14.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 block in four games. 

Shooting 54.7 percent (35-of-64) from the field and 78.9 percent (15-of-19) from the free throw line, Venner helped the Sharks to a 3-1 record during the voting period.

She recorded a double-double in each of the Sharks' three wins and posted four double-digit rebounding efforts. 

Against Santa Fe, Venner had 32 points and 18 rebounds; she posted 20 points and 18 rebounds vs. Florida State College at Jacksonville and tallied 31 points and 10 rebounds vs. Bryant & Stratton.


Suprius was named the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season.

A freshman guard from Lake Worth, Fla., she averaged 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.4 blocks in eight games. 

Suprius shot 53.0 percent from the field and 69.2 percent from the free throw line.

She recorded three 30-point outings, scoring 36 vs. Chesapeake, 32 vs. North Central Missouri and 33 vs. Bryant & Stratton, a game in which she also pulled down 14 rebounds. 

Suprius added two more double-doubles during the period - 25 points and 11 assists vs. McHenry and 28 points and 11 rebounds vs. Mid-Michigan. 


Register and Venner were recognized as FCSAA Players of the Week on Tuesday.
