FORT PIERCE, Fla. - Indian River State College Director of Athletics Scott Kimmelman was formally welcomed to the FCSAA Hall of Fame on Tuesday. Kimmelman received his award during the College's Board of Trustees meeting on IRSC's Massey Campus, home to The River's athletics program.
The FCSAA Hall of Fame is comprised of administrators, coaches, advisors, officials, students and other nominees who have contributed a minimum of ten years to the FCSAA and/or one of its member institutions. Individuals are selected by their peers on the merits of their community and college contributions and achievements, as well as significant accomplishments.
Kimmelman was elected by the FCSAA's Council for Athletic Affairs during its June 2025 meeting in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Scott Kimmelman has been a part of the Indian River State College Athletics Department since October 1, 1993.
Initially hired as an Assistant Coach for The River's legendary swimming & diving program, he was promoted to head coach in June 2002 and guided both the men's and women's teams to NJCAA National Championships in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 – part of what is now a record-breaking 51 straight championships for the men and 43 in a row for the women.
In June 2006, Kimmelman was promoted again, this time to Director of Athletics for IRSC, a position he still holds today.
Kimmelman has served in numerous leadership capacities during his tenure at IRSC. As Chair of the Southern Conference, he also filled a seat on the Council for Athletic Affairs' Executive Board. He later served as Citrus Conference Chair during its initial year of existence and has also been a member of the Board of Directors for both Florida Swimming and the Treasure Coast Sports Commission for more than 20 years.
All of IRSC's sports have enjoyed success under Kimmelman's leadership, including an NJCAA World Series title for softball in 2024, but none can match what both he and The River have accomplished in the pool.
Including his stint as an assistant, his coaching career boasts a total of 26 National Championships – and he has celebrated 40 more as an administrator. As head coach, he was recognized as NJCAA Men's Swimming Coach of the Year in 2003, 2004 and 2005, and NJCAA Women's Swimming Coach of the Year in 2006.
In 2011, Kimmelman was inducted into the NJCAA Swimming & Diving Hall of Fame and, a year later, received the NJCAA's Jack Cistriano Service Award, presented annually to individuals who have provided outstanding service to the sport of swimming & diving.
Kimmelman has also been active in bringing postseason events to IRSC and the surrounding area. Overseeing one of the nation's premiere facilities, Kimmelman has hosted and administered more than 15 NJCAA Swimming & Diving Championships on a biennial basis. From 2015-17, he partnered with Treasure Coast Sports to host the FCSAA Softball Championship at Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla.
