CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 3, 2021) - The National Junior College Athletic Association announced its Player of the Week awards on Wednesday.
Region 8 claimed both Division I Volleyball awards with Miami Dade College's Camila De La Rosa being named Player of the Week and Santa Fe College's Kariana Ayala, Defensive Player of the Week.
De La Rosa, a sophomore from Santo Domingo, D.R., won the award as a setter, albeit one of the best at her position in the nation.
De La Rosa averaged 12.0 assists in seven sets, posting totals of 39 and 45 in wins over Indian River State College and Eastern Florida State College, respectively.
Additionally, she averaged 4.4 digs per set and posted a hitting percentage of .545.
Ayala, a sophomore libero from Vega Baja, P.R., averaged 8.0 digs over nine sets in leading Santa Fe to a 3-0 week.
Ayala posted at least 18 digs in each match, including 30 against Gulf Coast State College.
De La Rosa and Ayala were named NJCAA Region 8 Setter and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday.
