The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team shut out ASA Miami 3-0 to advance to the championship game of the Region 8 Conference Tournament.
The Titans, who are 11-2-1 on the season and ranked eighth in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, got on the board in the opening minute of the contest as Teyah Lindo found an open Aida Illas who put it past the ASA Miami goalkeeper. It was Illas' fourth goal of the season and gave the Titans an early lead.
The Titans would add a second goal in the 53rd minute when Ebony Wiseman turned and hit a shot into the corner of the net. It was Wiseman's fourth goal of the season.
Illas put the contest away with her second goal of the day and fifth of the season.
"She has been playing really well and Ebony had a nice goal and it was so great to have her back in the lineup," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said. "Kiera (Gibson) made a huge save and Bea (Gards) played really well. You just never know, they had the momentum coming in but the girls stepped up and really played well defensively."
That defense held the Region 8's leading scorer Valentina Restrepo in check most of the night as they recorded their fifth shutout of the season.
The Titans will play Broward College in the championship game after the Seahawks defeated Daytona State College 2-1 in the first semifinal at Eastern Florida State College.
The Seahawks got on the board first with less than a minute remaining in the first half as sophomore Ronja Cronvall found the back of the net.
Daytona State College tied it up with 37 minutes remaining as freshman Lauren Woodcock scored but it didn't stay tied for long as Broward's Zeljana Maksimovic scored on a free kick less than a minute later.
Broward advances to the championship game for the first time.
The championship game will be at 7 p.m. Sunday night at Titan Soccer Complex and admission is free. The game will also be livestreamed on the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
