COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 11, 2017) - Pensacola State College's Ahyiona Vason has been named Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Vason, a freshman guard from Montgomery, Ala., posted a double-double - 19 points and 11 assists - in her only game of the week, a 100-89 win over nationally-ranked Tallahassee Community College.

Vason shot 5-of-11 from the field and 8-of-11 from the free throw line and was also credited with two rebounds and two steals in the Pirates’ victory.

Vason is the third women's player of the week recipient from Region 8 this season, joining Chipola College's Raven Baker-Northcross (November 23) and Florida State College at Jacksonville's Malaysia Robinson (December 14).
