Silver Storm Sweep Weekend Series vs. Muskegon College

Santaluces, FL-- Sophomore OF Jorge Lopez is on fire right now and the Silver Storm took full advantage of his offense this weekend vs. the Muskegon College Jayhawks. Lopez went 4-6 and scored four runs in the two games against the Jayhawks. Lopez is currently tied for fifth in NJCAA DII with 25 hits in 18 games for the Storm.

Offensive production has not been a problem for Head Coach Jonathan Hernandez and his team. The Silver Storm are averaging 6.1 runs per game. However, defensively the Storm continue to shoot themselves in the foot and give up unearned runs to their opponents. In the second game against the Jayhawks, ASA gave up the lead twice due to errors in the infield. Coach Hernandez made it clear he is not pleased with his teams defensive play as of late. The Storm committed 6 errors in that second game that led to all four runs for the Jayhawks. "In order for us to succeed and make a long run in the postseason we have to be able to execute routine plays. We were fortunate enough to sneak out with two wins this weekend." Coach Hernandez added.

The first game was dominated by ASA for 6 innings. Redshirt Freshman LHP Chris Grullon was cruising into the seventh inning with his team up 9-2. Then it seemed as if he ran out of gas giving up five runs to the Jayhawks. That prompted Coach Hernandez to go to the bullpen and call upon Freshman RHP Christian Ibanez. Ibanez picked up the final out and earned his first save of the season.

Freshman RHP Michael Rodriguez started the latter game of the double-header. While he didn't pick up the win, he still threw six impressive innings striking out five and only giving up four hits.

Freshman RHP Alex Valverde made his debut in the second game of the double-header and picked up the win for the Storm. He was impressive in just an inning of work, striking out two opponents. Valverde will work his way back into the rotation as the season progresses. Coach Hernandez and the rest of the staff are very excited with what Valverde brings to the team. Freshman RHP Christian Cuba picked up the save in relief striking out the side in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Silver Storm will take on Miami Dade College Tuesday 3pm at MDC.
