CHARLOTTE, N.C. (February 17, 2021) - The NJCAA announced its Player of the Week awards on Wednesday and included three participants from Region 8.
Santa Fe College's Cris'Deona Beasley was named NJCAA Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week while Florida SouthWestern State College's Fiona Baker and Miami Dade College's Paola Pimentel were named NJCAA Division I Volleyball Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
Beasley (pictured at right), a sophomore right-hander from Live Oak, Fla., went 2-0 with a 2.10 ERA in two appearances during the voting period. She totaled 10 innings in the circle, allowing eight hits, four runs (three earned) and two walks while striking out 14.
Included was a complete-game victory vs. Eastern Florida State in which she struck out nine.
She was also credited with a victory against Hillsborough.
Baker, meanwhile, garnered Volleyball Player of the Week honors, somewhat of a rarity for setters.
The freshman from Porta Westfalica, Germany, averaged 11.4 assists over 12 sets during the voting period, and posted at least 25 assists in each of the Bucs' four matches.
In three matches against nationally-ranked opponents, Baker had 39 vs. (9) Polk State, 32 vs. (6) Daytona State and 25 vs. (2) Miami Dade.
Pimentel, a sophomore defensive specialist from Rio de Janiero, Brazil, averaged 7.9 digs over nine sets. She recorded at least 19 digs in each match, including a pair of 25 Dig Club entries - 25 vs. Palm Beach State and 27 vs. Indian River State.
