NJCAA Region 8 Basketball Notebook: November 8

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 8, 2016) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Men's and Women's Basketball Coaches' Polls for November 8 and Player of the Week selections for games played November 1-6. 

The next poll and player of the week selections will be released November 15.

NJCAA Region 8 Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Ahmed Ali, Eastern Florida State
Freshman – Guard
Toronto, ONT, Canada 

  • Averaged 20.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.7 steals in three games during the voting period
  • Shot 51.2 percent (22-of-43) from the floor, 46.7 percent (14-of-30) from the three-point line and hit both of his free throw attempts
  • Scored 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting (5-of-11 three-pointers) in his collegiate debut, an 84-53 win over Polk State
  • Added 22 points and seven rebounds in win vs. South Georgia Tech and knocked down five three-pointers in win over Atlanta Metro

NJCAA Region 8 Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Taylor Emery, Gulf Coast State
Sophomore – Guard
Tampa, Fla. 

  • Averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.5 blocks in two games during the voting period
  • Shot 56.3 percent (18-of-32) from the floor, hit 3-of-9 three-pointers and 4-of-7 free throws
  • Led defending national champ and preseason No. 1 Gulf Coast State to wins over No. 5 Walters State and Roane State
  • Scored 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting and hit the game-winning basket in Gulf Coast State's 59-58 win at Walters State, ending the Senators' 54-game home-court winning streak
  • Added 21 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win over Roane State
